Mika，原名Micheal Holbrook Penniman 1983年8月18日生于黎巴嫩首都贝鲁特一个美黎联姻的家庭（他的父亲是美国人，母亲是黎巴嫩人）。因为战乱，Mika一家不得不在Mika十分小的时候带他逃离黎巴嫩，幼年时期随着家人辗转巴黎，他9岁时，全家才在伦敦定居下来。 经过了那段充满迷惑和巨变的时光，Mika变得十分内向，9岁时曾一度辍学，也正是从那时起他选择了音乐来给予他庇护。
他把自己的名字作出少许更改，把Mica中的c转成k，因为他害怕别人经常把他的名字读错。
Mika第一次发现音乐时，他就坚定了那将是他为之付出一生的事业。他曾参加歌唱队很多年，那里他花去所有的时间自学钢琴和作曲。米卡之后接受俄罗斯歌剧唱家Alla Ardakov的训练，他的公开演出由在皇家歌剧院演出，为英国航空写机内音乐，至为Orbit香口胶写口号词都有。他首次演出是于2006年9月16日，出席Dermot O'Leary在英国广播公司电台第二台的节目。有传他的音域达五个音阶，但他自己则指自己只能唱接近三个半音阶。
