A total of 30 rifles will be delivered over the course of 2017, in two batches of 15 units, said G. Wayne Weber, HK's VP for US government and law enforcement sales.
On display at this year's SHOT Show, the CSASS - designated the M110A1 in US service - has gone through several modifications since it was selected by the US Army last year.
The updated rifle design includes a new, smaller diameter, M-LOK handguard. That modification has meant that the OSS flash suppressor is now a flush mount attachment, rather than the previous version that fitted over the barrel.
Other changes will include a butt stock with adjustable cheek rest and rifle optics modifications.
A more substantial change will be to the rifle twist, going from 1:11, to 1:8. Because of the long lead times on barrel manufacturing, the first CSASS test articles will feature the original 1:11 rifle twist, while the second batch to be delivered later this year will incorporate the final 1:8 configuration.
The US Army will eventually procure around 3,600 examples of the CSASS with full production likely to begin next year.
