五朔节的主题是繁殖和生育，因此许多传统会越过篝火希望求得人丁兴旺和身体健康的祈愿。在节日中，少男少女会寻找花叶绿色的树枝并在树林中过夜，并做他们爱做的事情。在五朔节中山楂树枝是传统祭祀用品，中世纪认为山楂有催生情欲的效用，并散发着女性荷尔蒙的气味。
还有五月柱，是一根上面牵连着许多白色丝带的柱子，少女围绕它奔跑，原型是巨大的阴茎，牵动的缎带是精液流动的象征，在更古老的时期里，这个仪式包括了性活动。

“赤身裸体是真正自由的象征。”在现代巫术中来自巫术女神Aradia。
有个神话关于她是狄安娜与路西法的女儿。而正如之前所说，在异教中一个God和一个Goddess是传统的。一般来说在五朔节出现的并结合的是Diana(代表月亮的力量)和Cernunnos(角神)。

德鲁伊教训言：“日落之前饮用井水，用清晨的露珠沐浴，用绿色植物做装饰……坐看日出，围着五月柱舞蹈。否则就辜负了这一季节。”
最后次日清晨需要用露珠清洁，露水同时也是巫师增强药剂与咒语效果的物品。
